That was well said, "the RCC" [Roman Catholic Church] " is an abhorrent cult and heretical pseudo religious system". Indeed yes. I have read Hunt's book, among others, and I find he has a remarkably silent posture toward the Catholicism. One wonders why... I suspect money and the fear of reprisal.
I will tell you something I remember well that may shock you. Keith Green, of Last Days Ministries, had just put out his tracts exposing the Roman Catholic "church" as a heretical cult when he and his boys had their little "accident", crashing in a small plane they flown safely MANY times before. Melody, his wife then, claims to this day they had "overloaded" the plane, and yet the tracts were pulled by the ministry immediately after Keith's death. She claimed they didn't represent the true spirit of LDM.
I was an AVID LDM member and had plans to go to their Bible school when Keith Green had died so I followed the events VERY closely... and I remember...
We need not fear the RCC, however. They have not stopped Keith's message, and though they ended his tracts, which I read, their heresy is now WELL known and recognized. All they did is expose their lies even further, because, MANY of us remember the events of those days and we will not forget.

Patrick, thank you for the condensed answer. The fact that he was a RC is basically why I have never read much of his writings. I believe wholeheartedly that the RCC is an abhorrent cult and heretical pseudo religious system. Even before I became a Christian and grew up going to church, I knew by hearing of some of their beliefs that something wasn't right. I am baffled by why they weren't included in Walter Martin's "Kingdom of the Cults" because they bear all the hallmarks of such a title.

Augustine was a Catholic Priest and thus not to be trusted.
"Augustine developed the concept of the Catholic Church as a spiritual City of God (in a book of the same name)"
He established the heretical doctrine of Infant Baptism:
"God does not remit sins but to the baptized" -A Sermon to Catechumens on the Creed, Paragraph 16
He denied the Creation week by saying that everything in the universe was created simultaneously by God, and not in seven calendar days. And he aslo denied the Fall ["The Literal Interpretation of Genesis"]
And the Wikipedia article on Augustine also says, "while in his pre-Pelagian writings Augustine taught that Adam's guilt as transmitted to his descendants much enfeebles, though does not destroy, the freedom of their will, Protestant reformers Martin Luther and John Calvin affirmed that Original Sin completely destroyed liberty (see total depravity)"

Augustine established the heresy of exclusivity of the Roman Catholic Church for salvation {Justo L. Gonzalez (1970-1975). A History of Christian Thought: Volume 2 (From Augustine to the eve of the Reformation). Abingdon Press.}

Augustine established the RCC heresy of praying to saints.
"In place of a basket filled with fruits of the earth, she had learned to bring to the oratories of the martyrs a heart full of purer petitions, and to give all that she could to the poor - so that the communion of the Lord's body might be rightly celebrated in those places where, after the example of his passion, the martyrs had been sacrificed and crowned." — Confessions 6.2.2

Augustine established the heresy of "Mary the Everlasting Virgin": “conceived as virgin, gave birth as virgin and stayed virgin forever” De Sacra Virginitate, 6,6, 191
Augustine denied the Bible could be interpreted literally:
"It not infrequently happens that something about the earth, about the sky, about other elements of this world, about the motion and rotation or even the magnitude and distances of the stars, about definite eclipses of the sun and moon, about the passage of years and seasons, about the nature of animals, of fruits, of stones, and of other such things, may be known with the greatest certainty by reasoning or by experience, even by one who is not a Christian. It is too disgraceful and ruinous, though, and greatly to be avoided, that he [the non-Christian] should hear a Christian speaking so idiotically on these matters, and as if in accord with Christian writings, that he might say that he could scarcely keep from laughing when he saw how totally in error they are. In view of this and in keeping it in mind constantly while dealing with the book of Genesis, I have, insofar as I was able, explained in detail and set forth for consideration the meanings of obscure passages, taking care not to affirm rashly some one meaning to the prejudice of another and perhaps better explanation."
— De Genesi ad literam 1:19–20, Chapt. 19 [408]

And on and on it goes...
All this was taken from just ONE source. Just imagine all the other nonsense you can find about the man if you really looked. It seems as if he single handedly established the heresy of Roman Catholicism.
No, I don't recommend listening to anyone the RCC venerates. And just let's be clear here: The RCC does not worship the Jesus of the Bible, due to their corruption of what He says and did with all of their lies from other sources they hold above the Bible.
Hope that helps... -Patrick

Patrick, I am new here and fairly new to coming out of my shell and trying to debate my beliefs on this subject in open forums versus with my friends. Could you elaborate on why we shouldn't listen to Augustine? Did he have anything a Christian could benefit from by reading his writings? I personally have only read tidbits from his writings.

I would also like to share this tidbit I found at http://counteringcalvinism.wordpress.com

“The word world occurs eighty times in the Gospel of John in fifty-nine verses. And although it is used in different senses, it never refers to the “elect.” The world knew not Christ (John 1:10). The world hates Christ (John 7:7). The world’s works are evil (John 7:7). Unsaved Jews were of this world (John 8:23). Satan is the prince of this world (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11). Christ’s own are distinguished from the world (John 13:1, 14:19, 22). The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit (John 14:17). The world hates the disciples (John 15:18, 17:14). The disciples were not of the world (John 15:19, 17:16.) The world brings tribulation (John 16:33). The disciples were out of the world (John 17:6). Christ prayed not for the world (John 17:9). Christ is not of the world (John 17:16). The disciples were sent into the world (John 17:18). The world did not know God (John 17:25). Christ’s kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36)…So not only does the word world never denote the “elect,” it is unequivocally demeaned and condemned by God.” [Laurence M. Vance, The Other Side of Calvinism, p. 435]

Tom was a generous man. He and his family would often sacrifice having nice extras like meat and firewood so that they could give to our church. We used to jokingly refer to him as Tom the Tither around our staff meeting table right before we would pray that God would find a place for his mother to live so that she could get out of that homeless shelter. I know it weighed heavy on Tom’s heart that his own mother was forced to live the last days of her life in that place run by Roman Catholics and he would ask us for gospel tracts and pamphlets about the evils of the Vatican to send her. Because giving someone the Gospel is the greatest gift you can give them, amen?

So, should Pastors follow up on those who have filled out Decision Cards from a local evangelism outreach? Is this practice, this idea, Biblical, or even practical? Do Pastors really need to chase after someone who may not want to be there, may not be a Christian?
