Squirrel!

The squirrels are out in force. We’re seeing them everywhere, I dodge them on the road every morning, and every afternoon I have to watch for squirrels to keep from hitting them. Why are they on the road all the time? What are they doing?

Well I’ve Got a Theory…

There are many nut trees in the woods by a road I take to work. What I noticed about these trees is how they’re nowhere near close enough for their nuts to end up on the road. Now, one thing I’ve noticed about these nuts is that they have this hard thick outer layer that is very hard to break (I think they are chestnuts, but maybe they’re walnuts). Well, as I drove by I thought I saw a squirrel waiting on the side of the road. And it seems, as I ran over one of the nuts with the car, he scampered on out and picked up the pieces! Those little guys have been using the cars to break open the nuts they most desire??!

It’s appointed unto man to die once, but then comes the judgment.(Hebrews 9:27)

In America we have a political system that affords us the opportunity, the right, the solemn responsibility, to elect those we want to represent us in government. And, quite often, during these election periods, we see and hear professing Christians tell us we have no business getting involved in the political system. Every vote is counted, and every voter has an option to choose. The very reason we have evil leaders is because Christians feel like they have no business participating. But if we don’t participate, if we do not stand up and elect representative government, we are guaranteed the type of leaders who will represent those who will get involved. And this is what we’ve seen. We see crooks, we see men who aren’t even qualified to be in the office, we see capricious women trying to rule over men, we see unruly children flailing about as they run our government into the ground, causing all manner of harm to the citizenry and the general world, who count on our nation to be the representatives of what is good and right in the world.

My six-year-old son has been encouraging me to get off my old butt and get out and share the gospel every Saturday. But lately I’ve been feeling like a crazed squirrel scampering around for a nut, trying to share the love and mercy of God to a lost and Fallen world who couldn’t care less. I can’t find one person who’s interested and listening. It has been very frustrating.

No one seems to want to hear how they can be saved from the Hell they, we all, deserve.

But, every once in a while, someone comes along that hears the truth; Every once in awhile I get to see the fruits of my labor. If we don’t keep going, keep being diligent, keep finding new ways to accomplish what Jesus commands all His to do, then rest assured we will lose this culture. I don’t know if you have noticed but 60+ million babies murdered by the culture of the USA means we have lost, since 1973. But by the preaching of The Gospel, by sharing our faith in Jesus, showing the world how they can be rescued from everyone’s impending doom for their sin, for what we have done, for everything we’ve said and looked at it and thought, we can turn the tide. There is none of us good, not even one of us is better than the other, and as Disciples of Christ, we owe Jesus our devotion to the dissemination of His Message for we all deserve God’s Wrath:

His message of Love and Compassion and Mercy needs to be heard by everyone; There is none that God does not want to save.

Now, when I see nuts in the road, I run them over, because I know there’s a diligent little squirrel just waiting for his prize. We need to be as persistent, as diligent as the squirrels are in the fall, coming up with new ways of getting that old, old message out, and cracking open the hard heart of the lost:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16 KJV http://bible.com/1/jhn.3.16.KJV

Next time you see a squirrel, think about the fact that he’s busy about doing his appointed work. What are you busy about doing and who are you doing it for? Yourself? Your children? Your retirement? Or are you rather storing up Treasures in Heaven that will never ever be lost…

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord .
