“Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Proverbs 27:5-6
Loving the Praise of Men
Our Lord Jesus spoke of this phenomenon during his earthly ministry: “Even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” John 12:42-43
The Curse of Cowardice
Compromise and cowardice hurts everyone concerned. Cowardice is destructive and short sighted. In Revelation 21:8, cowards are at the top of God’s list of who will be condemned for all eternity – thrown into the lake of fire.
The Fear of Man is a Snare
The Word of God commands us not to be afraid of any man (Deuteronomy 1:17). We are warned that the fear of man will prove to be a snare (Proverbs 29:25). The Scriptures tell us of those who would not say anything publically about Jesus for fear of the people (John 7:13).
Fear God Alone
“Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die and of a son of man who will be made like grass? You forget the Lord your Maker, Who stretched out the Heavens and laid the foundations of the earth; you have feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor… And where is the fury of the oppressor? But I am the Lord your God, Who divided the sea whose waves roar – the Lord of Hosts is His Name. And I have put My Words in your mouth…” Isaiah 51:12-15
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
The Scandalous Sin of Silence
It is shocking how few pulpits proclaim the Law of God and the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1:7). It is a disgrace how few pastors teach on when life begins, and the Christian duty to rescue those being led away to death, to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
